This position reports to

Automation Engineering Manager

Your role and responsibilities

In this role you will be eligible of technical lead for all engineering activities in assignments classified as low to medium

engineering complexity with expertise in Power Management Systems (PMS) and Substation Control and Monitoring

Systems (SCMS), or Process Control and/or Safety Systems with ABB 800xA/S+ and/or other ABB Control Systems.

Ensure that activities related to all engineering disciplines within the project are efficiently and cost-effectively executed in

accordance with contract specifications, quality standards and safety requirements. Deliver excellent customer service to

satisfy customers. In close co-operation with customer and other ABB teams, take actions to identify new service

business opportunities for ABB.

The work model for the role is onsite, based in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

This role is contributing to Process Automation Business Area.

You will mainly be accountable for:

• Evaluating, selecting, and applying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform task or sequence of tasks,

for conventional projects with few complex features.

• Executing assignments using established solutions.
• Applying safety rules and safe practices as well as environmental responsibilities.
• Reporting unsafe practices and incidents.
• May act as a design authority for a particular engineering discipline and completes engineering assignments for that

discipline.

• Acting as a technical lead, approves design deliverables.
• Interacting with customers, contractors, suppliers.
• Attending project meetings and presents all technical aspects of project assignments.
• Actively participating project meetings and resolves any outstanding technical issues to meet contractual obligations.
• Contributing to customer satisfaction by planning and executing service work according to customer order and

expectation.

• Ensuring customer retention by delivering superior customer experiences and effectively communicating service work

timeline and expectations.

• Performing complex field service tasks, identifies technical problems, and makes analysis through remote or on-site

activity in service categories and products for which they are certified to perform.

• Collaborating on project installation, commissioning, and site activities, clarifying potential issues or providing solutions

to correct engineering errors.

• Providing technical support to commissioning and start-up activities.
• Coordinating and resolves high level technical issues/questions and provide advice and recommendations both

internally and to customers within own area of expertise.

• Working with customer to identify opportunities in the installed base to improve system performance and operational

performance improvements.

• Providing and creating a team approach to service related activities and offer customers a complete lifecycle approach

to product implementation, support and ultimate system upgrades and/or evolution.

• Utilizing the local practices for notifying the account team of opportunities.
• Assisting in creating proposals for projects through coordination of proposal documents and engineering estimates.
• Assisting in performing engineering risk analysis before submitting proposal.
• Collaborating and networking with engineering colleagues within ABB.
• Sharing best practice across different projects and disciplines.
• Coaching project engineers and designers on the translation of conceptual designs to engineering documentation,

including modelling, proto-typing and calculations

• Leading, supervising, and coordinating teams in all engineering disciplines (both in-house and outsourced) on low to

medium complexity projects.

• Leading single or multi-discipline engineering teams of less than 10 resources.
• Utilizing standard processes, tools, and techniques.
• Ensuring that engineering activities comply with required safety regulations and contractual requirements.
• Supporting the Project Manager in overall project risk and opportunity assessments and implementation of resulting

actions.

• Identifying opportunities for repeating and new businesses.
• Reviewing all project documents for conformity, safety, and quality assurance.
• Supporting Project Manager in issuing claims (new scope of work, cost impact, time impact, risk quantifications, etc.).
• Creating work plans and cost estimates for the project in consultation with respective Project Managers and ensuring

quality deliverables on time and at targeted cost.

Qualifications For The Role

• Engineering Degree
• Overall automation systems understanding, combined with process knowledge in in one of: Oil & Gas, Power & Water sectors.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role and experience in the automation area
• Knowledge of ABB or other Control systems eg: 800xA PMS/SCMS/ICSS & IEC 61850, Symphony Plus (S+) etc.
• Knowledge of Industrial Cyber security and networking solutions for ABB systems
• Experience with Onshore and/or Offshore Oil and Gas customers like with ADNOC and/or Power & Water sector experience
