Position Title: Senior Supervisor – Research & Development (located at KAUST ACWA POWER)

• JOB PURPOSE:

S eeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Senior Supervisor for Green Hydrogen R&D, to lead the development, validation, and optimization of advanced technologies across the hydrogen value chain with a focus on electrolyser systems. The role is critical in driving research projects from concept to prototype, supporting testing protocols, and contributing to related modeling and simulation activities. The position will play a key role in shaping the technical strategy and innovation roadmap for green hydrogen solutions ACWA Power

• KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Description

Research Project Development and Management

• Lead and coordinate R&D projects focused on green hydrogen production, including but not limited to electrolyser performance, degradation mechanisms, and system integration.
• Define technical scopes, work packages, and resource allocation plans.
• Oversee project timelines, milestones, and deliverables in line with innovation roadmap
• Investigate electrochemical and material degradation mechanism and generate technical insight for research publications
• Deliver periodic briefings and reports to managers, utilizing research findings to inform decision-making.

Technology Validation and Protocol Design

• Develop and implement robust technology testing protocols for various electrolyser stacks and systems.
• Supervise lab and pilot testing setups, ensuring safety, reliability, and data integrity.
• Analyse data to extract insights on efficiency, degradation, and optimization mechanisms

Modelling and Simulation

• Lead modelling of hydrogen production system, including but not limited to energy efficiency optimization, heat integration, dynamic operation
• Develop process simulation tools tailored for the plant performance model and databases, ensuring suitability for ACWA Power’s needs.
• Provide training and assistance to software tool users for efficient utilization.

Technical Support and Innovation Guidance

• Provide technical support to internal and external technology partners.
• Support technology scouting and assessment of emerging hydrogen technologies
• Contribute to IP generation and technical documentation.
• Liaise with external vendors, universities and start-up companies, etc., to gather information and support related tasks.
• QuaLIFICATIONS
• Master or PhD in Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in R&D, with at least 2 years in green hydrogen or electrolyser-related fields
• Proven experience in leading complex technical projects with multidisciplinary teams
• Deep understanding of electrolyser operation, design, degradation mechanisms and safety protocols.
• Familiarity with simulation tools (MATLAB, Aspen or equivalent)
• Strong analytical and communication skills

• Experience working with joint development projects or startup technologies
• Familiarity with standards and certifications related to hydrogen production and safety
• Exposure to digital twin system or AI/ML for performance optimization is a plus
