The team is growing, and we are currently looking to hire a Control Engineer (Power).

About the position:

Supervises the daily control activities such as maintenance, repair and modifications related to Al Ain power distribution system. Coordinates operations and works for providing quality, stability and security in the distribution system.

What I will be doing:

WORK PERFORMED

• Supervises Shift Engineers by giving work directions, reviewing activities and ensuring efficient and satisfactory performance. Performs supervisory functions at the level established by management.
• Approves all requests for development, modification, maintenance, transfer load and other needed operation relating to the distribution system. Ensures that duties are performed in accordance with set required standards and procedures, and that safety rules are rigorously followed.
• Controls load trend and ascertains that transformers and feeders do not exceed the permissible safe limit according to set AADC standards.
• Responds to emergency situations/breakdowns/faults in the distribution power network and devises restoration procedures in coordination with the O& M Department to re-establish power supply in a timely manner.
• Liaises with Testing & Protection/ O&M in reviewing incident reports after any fault in AA distribution system, providing details on the event. Investigates, for major incident, the origin and includes in the report comments and suggestion to minimize repetition. Presents to Head of Section for management purposes.
• Coordinates with NCC and relevant authority in updating the Under Frequency Scheme, according to the system load and demands, to protect the network against the cascade tripping. Determines the actions to follow to restore power supply.
• Reports any faults in the Telecommunication system and SCADA computer system to the immediate supervisor.
• Performs other similar or related duties as and when assigned by Head of Network Control Section.
• Ensure that all work procedures are carried out in accordance with AADC System Safety Rules and HSE Roles and Responsibilities Procedure, in addition to the general safety rules and regulations enforced by local authorities.

WORK RELATIONS & CONTACTS

• Has daily contacts with Head of Network Control Section to receive work directions, discuss/resolve issues, guidance and approval.
• Has daily contacts with subordinate staff to give work directions, discuss and resolve issues.
• Has regular contacts with colleagues within Network Control Section and Power Network Division to exchange information, clarify issues and work coordination.
• Has contacts with Governmental Departments such as TRANSCO and NCC to give/obtain information, approval and discuss issues when required.

ACCOUNTABILITY FOR ACTIONS & IMPACTS

• Accountable for supervising and coordinating the activities of AA power distribution system, ensuring reliable power supply and compliance with required AADC standards.
• Determines work methods from several existing alternative methods according to established policies and professional standards.
• Work assignments are subject to review and direction.

What I should I have:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in in load Distribution Control (LDC) of which 3 years’ experience with supervisory responsibility.
• Good interpersonal, communication, coordination and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of SCADA or protection.

• This position is working from the office on a full-time basis, hence, requires you to be living in Al Ain.
