Instrumentation & Control Engineer

Position Title: Instrumentation & Control Engineer

Reporting: Administrative: Maintenance Manager

Job Purpose: Supervise and manage instrumentation and control maintenance activities including preventive and corrective maintenance, systems engineering design, planned outages, and overhauls for all I&C systems in line with maintenance plans, HSE guidelines, and quality standards.

Number of Staff Supervised: Direct Reports: ~2–3 | Indirect Reports: ~7–8

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise team activities to meet targets and ensure policy compliance
  • Monitor preventive and corrective maintenance for instrumentation and control systems
  • Ensure accurate documentation including fault logs, repair methods, time, labor, and materials used
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and minimize downtime
  • Promote condition-based maintenance through troubleshooting and RCA
  • Troubleshoot critical I&C system issues and ensure compliance with quality and HSE standards
  • Analyze maintenance data and propose reliability improvements
  • Prepare feasibility studies for new installations or modifications, including technical evaluations and cost estimates
  • Forecast manpower and material needs for maintenance execution
  • Coordinate annual outage maintenance for critical I&C systems ensuring scope, cost, and timeline objectives are met
  • Ensure accurate SAP documentation of maintenance activities
  • Enforce HSSE compliance and permit-to-work procedures
  • Collaborate with HSSE to ensure safety rules are followed and incidents investigated
  • Prepare monthly/annual requirements for materials, spare parts, and tools
  • Conduct technical evaluations with procurement for instrumentation and automation spare parts
  • Maintain relationships with internal departments and external contractors
  • Liaise with EPC/OEM contractors for technical guidance
  • Supervise SAP processes including planning, scheduling, and data management to ensure system integrity
  • Contribute to change initiatives and improvement projects
  • Adhere to organizational policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the line manager

External Relationships: Contractors and vendors

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

Minimum Experience: 8–10 years in instrumentation and control maintenance in water desalination and power generation plants, including 2 years in a supervisory role
