Job Purpose:

To lead the Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) stream of clean energy project proposal preparation from the planning to the execution stages ensuring proper cost effective and techno-commercial solutions that achieve the lowest LCOE or the highest IRR possible.

Manage the EPC and O&M stream of I&GO:

  • Manage up to two active projects at the same time and contribute to the initiation of one project.
  • Support in preparing the bid technical strategy including the shortlisting of the technology for the bid, shortlisting the suppliers for the bid, prudently evaluate the key deviations to be made in order to be competitive.
  • Lead the preparation of the EPC request for proposal along with design team
  • Provide assistance and follow up to the supply chain team in preparation of the request for proposal for the key OEMs and participate in discussions, negotiations with OEMs along with supply chain team for techno-commercial aspects
  • Contribute to the EPC competition exercise and manage the EPC proposals preparation process with multiple EPC Contractors.
  • Contribute to the interim O&M offer preparations and O&M forecast process with the support of relevant teams.
  • Prepare the EPC and O&M terms sheets from a technical/execution perspective with the support of the person/team leading the transaction for commercial/financial inputs.
  • Prepare the technical annexes of the EPC contract and contribute to the technical/delivery/execution aspects of the EPC Contract and O&M agreement.
  • Guide the EPC contractors on how to reduce the cost by proposing up-to date solutions.
  • Contribute to the commercial and technical EPC contract and O&M agreements negotiations.
  • Contribute to the bottom-up cost estimation exercise for both EPC and O&M costs in order to negotiate the best priced cost estimate with the counter-parties (i.e potential EPC contractor and potential O&M contractor).

Recommend the most competitive techno commercial solution of the transaction:

  • Coordinate with the procurement lead and the OEM’s to map the latest technologies and advancement in the main equipment, including but not limited to the PV modules, WTG, Inverter station, tracker solution and etc.
  • Review the track record of the main equipment in close coordination with the procurement lead the transaction manager.
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to achieve the most optimum techno-commercial solution, which achieve the lowest LCOE.
  • Coordinate with the procurement lead on the inputs of the techno-commercial model and the transaction manager, in preparation of the LCOE analysis
  • Coordinate with the procurement team and engineering team for preparation of the RFP to be shared with main equipment suppliers reflecting the technical specifications of the project.
  • Coordinate with the technical advisors, EPC contractors, and local subcontractors on the balance of system cost of the techno-commercial model.
  • Work closely with the O&M lead of the transaction to define the O&M cost of each solution.
  • Review the client’s RFP and provide key technical consideration and clarifications to the transaction manager.
  • Conduct with the rest of the cross-functional team the RFP due diligence.
  • Prepare techno-commercial optimisations workshops with technical, supply chain and delivery teams on design, supply/technology and project schedule optimizations.
  • Prepare the transfer sheets required for the Financial Model with concertation with relevant teams (EPC cost, Generation, O&M, SPV cost, Insurance, S-Curve)
  • Prepare and evaluate scenarios and case runs for the financial modelling team to evaluate and select best LCOE options for the Project.

Stakeholder management and working with cross-functional teams:

  • Work with cross-functional teams for proposal development communicating clear expectations, standards and requirements so that bids and proposals are completed effectively and accurately.
  • Manage relations and inputs from stakeholders, typically involving contributions from sales, marketing, product teams, finance, commercial, legal and delivery.

Remain abreast of latest developments:

  • Remain abreast of the latest developments and changes in technologies and main equipment in order to ensure work is always updated and aligned to leading practices.

Management of stakeholders and third party service providers:

  • Ensure relationships with service level providers are managed smoothly and effectively in a way that guarantees that Masdar is provided with quality and timely services, in line with relevant service level agreements.
  • As and when required by management, personally manage key relationships/negotiations with relevant internal and external stakeholders in order to ensure the negotiation and agreement of favourable deals and agreements that safeguard Masdar’s best interests while ensuring the delivery of necessary needs/goals.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills

  • MBA or relevant Master’s degree from a top-tier internationally recognized higher education institution · Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or any other related field Preferred Experience:
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the development of EPC proposals for specifically solar photovoltaic and wind projects and reewnable energy projects in general including experience working with crossfunctional teams and coordinating all the activities among the consortium members, equity partners, EPC contractor, advisors, lenders, O&M contractor etc. or an equivalent experience
  • Experience in closing EPC contracts in renewable energy projects
  • Track record of developing proposals that contribute to the winning of IPP tenders, in conventional energy and/or renewable energy. Job-Specific Skills:
  • Deep knowledge of the engineering, construction management, technical specifications of both solar and onshore wind plus at least two of the following technologies: solar photovoltaic, onshore wind, CSP and waste to energy technologies.
  • Hands on experience in the drafting and negotiations of the technical annexures of the renewable energy technologies
  • Exceptional know-how in the EPC contracts preparation, drafting, negotiations and closure
  • Strong knowledge on the works done by the cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills leading to a consultative approach within a corporate / multifunctional environment
  • Ability to manage cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of renewable energy and traditional energy industry
  • Strong knowledge of processes, templates, tools and systems used in bids and proposals
  • Knowledge renewable energy industry technical matters, procurement routes, value management and value engineering
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Ability to prioritize actions
